Pakistan cricketers in the domestic T20 tournament not Satisfied by the Pakistan Cricket Board
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has failed to impress the cricketers currently taking part in the much hyped super8 T20 tournament in Faisalabad as they are not being paid sufficient enough on daily basis.
According to sources, while the board arranged the stay of the players in the city’s top hotel, the daily wages that are being provided to the players are much less, making it extremely difficult for the cricketers to pay their hotel bills.
According to a player who on the condition of anonymity told that the board was paying a mere sum of 750 Pakistani Rupees, which is not enough to meet the expenses of the lavish hotel.
“We can’t even afford proper refreshment from the daily allowance we are getting because if we order tea twice a day, it costs us Rs 700-800. Having lunch or dinner is out of question,” said the player.
Another player who also did not want the media to disclose his identity said, “I am not impressed by the poor planning of the PCB.
They are terrible when it comes to boost our domestic cricket because they do not have any sort of vision on how to improve our domestic structure to attract top players of the country. Who would pay Rs 250 for a bottle of mineral water?”
On the other hand, the PCB made tall claims this month, when the chairman of the board Ijaz Butt, reiterated the desire by the PCB to launch a domestic Twenty20 tournament on the footings of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to Butt, the Pakistan T20 tournament will also attract foreign players.
However, with the current despicable situation, players believe that it will not be possible for Pakistan to launch such a lucrative cricket league in the coming years.
Many top names from Pakistan cricket are also missing from the ongoing domestic tournament, as cricketers like Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz have all opted to play county cricket in England this season.
The players who stayed behind to play the domestic event are now having second thoughts and have backed the decision of the other players to ditch the super eight tournament.
On the other hand there have also been reports of major discrepancies regarding the payments to the players by the sponsors of the teams. It has been learned from credible sources that Chawla Aluminum who are the sponsors of Karachi Dolphins, have not paid anything to the team.
No PCB official was available to give the board’s side of story regarding this report.
